Justice AJ Sadashiv Commission, which is inquiring into the constitutional facilities provided by the State Government to SC communities, conducted meetings with the SC leaders and received petitions from various 10 sub-castes of scheduled castes at the DC office in Haveri of Karnataka recently.

 

D S Malagi, district DSS leader, submitted a memorandum to Justice Sadashiv and urged him to transfer all the responsibilities of Ganga Kalyan programmes and other welfare schemes to the district administration from the elected representatives.

 

Udachappa Malagi, convener of the district DSS and president, Youth Congress Committee, urged him to renovate ‘Lidkar’ which would generate self-job opportunities for those people working in leather units in the district.

 

Leaders of various SC communities, including Madar, Adi-Jambava Killikatara, Chalavadi, Samagar, Lamani, Koli-Kshorika, Chamagara, Korama and Dohar submitted their petitions to Justice Sadashiv demanding that new rules be made for proper utilisation of the 18 per cent SC/ST amount in Pattana Panchayat, Town Municipal Council and other local bodies and give permanent jobs to SC Poura Karmikars, who were working for the last 15 years in various TMCs in the district.

 

They demanded that all atrocity cases be handled properly by the officers concerned and in case of any failure, action be taken against the guilty officer. They urged him to provide inner reservations to SC communities to provide job opportunities for the youth. Justice Sadashiv advised the SC community people to obtain relief for their grievances or problems under the Right to Information Act.

 

Justice Sadashiv said most of the problems would be solved, if correct information regarding personal or public problems was collected. He said the Commission, which had travelled in 15 districts to collect petitions, would submit the same along with the suggestions of various DSS leaders and public, to the state government along with the commission report.

 

Amlan Biswas, Deputy Commissioner, N H Sulebavi, HQA to DC, Kenchappa of Justice A J Sadashiv Commission, various Dalit community leaders and elected representatives were present. P Nagesh, district social welfare officer, welcomed the gathering.
