Pastor Ram Prakash of Zion Ministry at Khutihana village, falling under the Gasainganj police station in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, enjoys visiting his flock. He holds regular prayer services in his house, attended by around 200 people.
But one such visit proved costly for him. He went to meet a new believer about 25 kilometres from his house. Upon his arrival at this man’s house, a few hundred men surrounded him wielding lethal weapons. Pastor Ram Prakash hid in the new believer’s house. When the marauders began to break down the door, the pastor took out his mobile phone and dialled the local police for help.
The police indeed arrived, but not to rescue him. Instead, they came to complete the task of the bloodhounds. Pastor Prakash was whisked away right into the sacred room of the police station and subjected to severe harassment until he renounced his Christian faith. But the pastor would not concede. The police beat him within an inch of his life. They robbed him of his personal belongings and locked him up without any food or toilet facilities. The following day, the police made a charge sheet against him, refusing to disclose the charges. He was let out on bail by the sub-district magistrate of Sultanpur in the afternoon.
