Mansa: A bunch of Dalit labourers, struggling under a crippling social boycott called by upper caste landlords, finally got justice after almost 20 days without work, denied to them following a face-off with the farmers regarding wages.

The police on 14 August 2008 booked six farmers under the SC/ST Act for calling the social boycott against the labourers.

The group from Guradi village had been struggling for their ‘rightful’ wages and had even staged a dharna at the district administrative complex in Mansa of Punjab five days ago.

The administration had then ensured settlement, but nothing happened as the farmers, about a dozen, had declined to pay them according to the negotiated rate.
