New Delhi: All India Christian Council (aicc) has appealed to Home Minister Shivaraj Patil to immediately intervene and stop further violence in Kandhamal district of Orissa. In a memorandum dated 25 August 2008, Sam Paul, aicc national secretary – public relations said, “You are well aware of the crisis in Kandhamal, which has erupted after the unfortunate attack on the Ashram in which, Lakshmananada Saraswati and his four associates were killed. Our contacts from Kandhamal have reported that the mobs have burnt shops and establishments belonging to the Christian community in the district. The verbal threats are being carried out and the many Christians have been made to run and hide in the nearby jungles for their survival.”
Sam Paul said, “Our contacts have also said the VHP activists have warned to burn down the Christian street in Raikai in Kandhamal district and the mobs have asked the police to leave the place so that they can carry out their plans.” Sam Paul appealed to the Home Minister to immediately intervene and take all measures to stop any further destruction, loss of life and spread of killing of innocent Christians in Kandhamal and throughout Orissa. |
