Chennai: Hindutva activists have attacked a church damaging the front portion, including the windows at Kavundapadi in Erode district of Tamil Nadu.
The miscreants attacked Jesus Miracle Ministry Church at Kavundapadi in Erode on 14th October 2008. They pelted stones, damaging the front portion, including the windows. Since the attack took place in the wee hours on 14th October 2008, there was no one around to protect the church.
The church was established a few years ago in the wake of the villagers turning to Christ on account of the healing they had experienced. At present about 800 new Christian believers regularly worship in the church on Sundays. Since the last Vinayaka festival, the fundamentalists in the area had been openly threatening to demolish the church. Pastor Rev J Samuel and his wife Ida Samuel went to Kavundapadi Police Station to file an FIR against the attack. Since they did not receive a favourable response from the local authorities, they were planning to meet the district police chief and the collector. “It is obvious that the local police and the fundamentalists have an understanding,” said a local source. All India Christian Council has condemned the attack and sought immediate action against the culprits. The Council has also sought security for all Christian establishments in the area. |
