ImageA Hindu fundamentalist attacked a pastor's wife in the absence of her husband in Urla Thana of Chhattisgarh on 19 February 2007, leaving her seriously wounded. She was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Pastor Kanya Sharma's wife was beaten up badly causing both external and internal injuries and hospitalized after loosing much blood. The accused Jogi Sahu, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) man attacked her when the husband was not at home. The Pastor's wife was sent to Medical College in Raipur for treatment and investigation. Sources said she suffered from internal and external injuries and remained in a critical condition.

Several times in the past the Hindu fundamentalists attacked the church and its believers and paraded them on streets of Urla Thana with anti-Christian slogans. Pastor Kanya Sharma filed a case against Jogi Sahu and Jogi Sahu also filed a case against the Pastor's wife. The police said there were no visible injuries to the victim. “It was not a religious attack. It was a fight over water.”

Arun Panalal, the general secretary of Chhatisgarh Christian Forum said the police had fabricated the story to deny justice to Christian minorities. He said it was a serious Christian attack by Hindutva forces. He said Pastor Sharma was beaten up 18 months ago for professing Christian faith by Dharma Sena activists. He was also abused on 31 December 2007 by Sahu.

All India Christian Council condemned the discrimination shown against the Christian community in Chhattisgarh. “Jogi Sahu must be punished for attacking Pastor Sharma's wife as per as the law,” the Council demanded.
