A 20-year-old Dalit woman was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in Junagadh of Rajkot, Gujarat in the wee hours of 5 January 2007. The body was found at her residence at Kadiyawad area of the city.

According to the police, Jyotsna Chudasama was alone in the house when the incident occurred. Her younger brother Naresh found her dead when he returned home at 9 am. Her parents had left for Dhoraji and her elder brother Ashok, who is a driver, had left for Vadodara on night duty. The culprits are believed to have entered the house from the back door.

The body of the victim bore six stab wounds suggesting that she was attacked with a piece of glass. Her torn clothes led the police to suspect that the culprits might have attempted to rape the woman.

It is also suspected that the culprits were drunk as two glasses of liquor were found from the spot. Police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Mangalsinh Parmar, headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police Usha Rada, FSL officials and the dog squad reached at the spot for investigations.
