Hyderabad: A Pastor has been attacked and then arrested at the instance of a Hindutva outfit at Mangalagiri in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Pastor David Raju from Uppal, Hyderabad went for a day prayer meeting at their Branch Church in Mangalagiri in Guntur district on 7 June 2009. Upon his arrival, some members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) caught him while he was distributing Christian literature. Accusing him of forcible conversion activities in the area, they first attacked him and then dragged him to the local police station. The police immediately took him into custody.
On coming to know about the incident, Timothi, Ravi Prakash and Boaz - All India Christian Council (aicc) leaders from Mangalagiri met Circle Inspector Nagaraju and made him to take action against the attackers. The police officer immediately swung into action and got all of the attackers arrested and brought to the station. Soon their leaders also arrived along with a large number of followers. This resulted in local Congress leaders rushing to the police station. Finally the police opted for an amicable settlement of the issue. The Pastor went back to his church and conducted the prayer service without any disturbance. |
