Erode: Anti-Christian activists attacked members of the YMEF South Division team at a village in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on 22 July 2009.
The team consisting of 10 members was badly roughed up and then forcibly taken to a temple nearby for further humiliation. At the temple, they were made to lie down in the sun and pay obeisance to the deity. While they were forced them to do so, they were kicked all over for allegedly indulging in conversion activities in the area.
The culprits seized all the literature from the team and set the material on fire. They also damaged their vehicle. A Christian, who was passing by, alerted the police who rushed to the scene and rescued them. All the team members were provided first aid with the help of a team of doctor. The team members were then allowed to go. One of the team members had to be taken to hospital for treatment of injuries. Incidentally the team members have been working in the area for the last eight months. All India Christian Council (aicc) has condemned the attack on the media team and sought action against the culprits. |
