Two Christians have been arrested in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the recent vandalisation of a statue in a temple recently. According to Pastor Prabhu Dass of Adilabad, two Christian families live at Pippalwada village in Jainath mandal, 20 km from Adilabad. Some time ago some unidentified people entered the temple in the village and broke the idol of Ganapati. The issue remained quiet till some disgruntled elements raked it up during the recent Peerla festival. While taking out the jatara, someone said he had a divine darshan telling him it was Vinod who broke the idol. Upon this, the villagers complained to the police alleging his involvement in the vandalisation. The police arrested Vinod and took into custody. Shakar Paul in whose house Vinod was working got him released. The villagers then started alleging Shankar Paul might have asked Vinod to destroy the idol. So they filed a complaint against Shankar. The police then took Shankar also into custody. The All India Christian Council (aicc) has already deputed a team to probe the issue and provide support to the victims.
