ImageIt was there for everyone to see. But Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray alone failed to see the writing on the wall. But when the verdict came, rejecting him and his party of thugs at the hustings, he is busy looking for a fig leaf!

Now Bal Thackeray blames Muslims for the defeat. He attributes the Congress-Nationalist Congress party's victory to strategic voting by Muslims and non-Maharashtrians against his party.

But nobody knows if Muslims were ever favourably inclined to him and his party. With his strident posture against all non-Maharashtrians living in Mumbai in particular and in Maharashtra in general, even they have had no heart for him. The minority and the others kept their mouth shut, for fear of reprisal.

As the saying goes, every dog has its day. If the Muslims waited for a chance to hit back, what is there to be surprised about? He seems to suffer from amnesia. Or is it that he prefers to conveniently forget the number of Muslims he and his men have systematically wiped out. But they remember.

It is not just Muslims. Thackeray blames practically everyone around. In an article in his party mouthpiece Saamna, he passes the blame for the ignominious defeat on to others. However the ‘others’ do not include his party Shiv Sena.

The Maharashtra Tiger says the Congress-NCP alliance and the country will one day pay dearly for relying on Muslims for winning elections. He warns it will be mistake to rely too much on Sonia Gandhi. "When the country faces the crisis that the Congress is building by patronising Muslims, Sonia will quietly pack her bags and leave for Italy with her children," he says.
