The All India Christian Council (aicc) has appealed to the Collector of Phulbani district in Orissa to take all precautionary measures in view of the tense situation in Chakapadu such as deploying police force and provide security to church institutions. In a memorandum submitted to the Collector, the aicc leadership in Orissa has cited Raikia where a church was attacked and ransacked by the Hindu fundamentalists on 26 August 2005. “We do not want such ugly and unpleasant incidents to be repeated, greatly harming the minority Christian communities in the State.” A massive gathering of 20 lakh devotees is expected to attend the three-day centenary celebrations of Guruji. But the hidden agenda of the Sangh Parivar is to convert 10,000 Christians to Hinduism. The minority Christian community fears attacks by the Hindu fundamentalists during the period, leading to law and order situation. “The Christian communities in and around Chakapadu are living in fear and anxiety,” the memorandum says. When the Sangh Parivar planned Sabri Kumbh Mela in Dangs district of Gujarat from 11-13 February 2006, paramilitary forces were deployed in the area and the situation was handled with utmost care. “We appeal to the district administration to take urgent precautionary measures to protect the lives and properties of the minority Christians in the area.” Memoranda have also been also submitted to Superintendent of Police, Kondhmal, Block Development Officer, Chakapadu Block, Block Development Officer, Tikabali Block and Officer-in-Charge, Tikabali Police Station.
