Moga: The local police have registered a case of rape against Sandip, a resident of Nigaha Road in Moga of Punjab.
The victim, a 16-year-old Dalit girl, in her complaint said Sandip had promised to marry her but had been avoiding her for the last few weeks. “He promised to marry me and had been raping me for the last six months,” she alleged. Later, when he refused to getting married, she confided in her parents. She was taken to the hospital for medical examination and the matter was reported to the police on 6 January 2010. The initial medical report confirmed that she was being raped and the police have registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC. The accused, however, is on the run and efforts are being made to arrest him.
ASI Balraj Singh said, “We are conducting raids on the possible hideouts in the town.” (Source: The Indian Express dated 08 January 2010)
