ImageBelieve it or not, after Lav and Kush, a third son of Lord Ram has suddenly surfaced in Uttar Pradesh. Brahmachari Yogi Nirmal Kumar — that is his name — has filed a writ petition with the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court seeking the court’s permission to build a temple at the place where the Ram Chabutara existed.

The Ram Chabutara was demolished by violent karsevaks on 6 December 1992. It was situated between the inner and outer courtyards of the Babri Masjid-Ram janambhoomi disputed complex. The Supreme Court ruled on 24 October 1994 that the Ram Chabutara was part of the disputed site.

Kumar claims that the Ram janambhoomi temple and Ram Chabutara were built by his family — that of Lord Ram. He says he has every right to change the nature and shape of the temple and to reconstruct them according to his wishes. Interestingly, he has made the Sunni Central Waqf Board, the President, the Uttar Pradesh government, the district magistrate and the SSP of Faizabad as respondents in his petition.

Many in the minority community are apprehensive. They feel the petition might be a ploy to prolong the Ayodhya case. It is also learnt that Kumar is actually a resident of village Kherauta in Ballia district. And that he has given his present address C/o Ajay Kumar Singh in Gonda district. Singh is the district president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal. Kumar is currently untraceable.
