Belgaum, July 9, 2010 The All India Christian Council today held a Seminar at Methodist Church, Opp. Court, Belgaum was attended by over 250 Pastors, Christian leaders from all denominations of Christian faith. The Methodist District Supt has opened the Seminar and said that Christian leaders should be in united in heart and follow the teachings of Jesus to love one another. The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Feroz Sait of Belgaum city Constituency affirmed that the Constitution of India does not have any difference for any community and that we should live in that outlook as the true and happy citizens of India. He said that He is personally a beneficiary of Christian missionary service and thanked the community for their services. He reminded that more needs to be done to the poor in their community. He made a promise to look into the need of a cemetery for Belgaum city with the Dy Commissioner who is the competent authority to find a suitable place. Mr. Anil Potedar, a leading political leader has mentioned that Christian community stands for the secular values and Aicc, Karnataka State President, Rev. Kumar Swamy speaking on the occasion said that there should be sensitivity in the presentation of the gospel and that aicc will stand firmly whenever there is a communal attack on the community anywhere in Karnataka. Secretary, Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights, Fr. Ronnie Prabhu emphasized the need of unity of Christians and how do we collaborate the preaching of the Gospel in the state of Karnataka. Dr. Sam Paul, National Secretary, aicc has deplored the increasing number of incidents of attacks on Christians throughout the State of Karnataka. He welcomed the Central Government Ban on over 100 terror outfits that could be causing a concern for India. He requested that the Centre should also investigate the outfits like “Sanatan Sanstha” of Goa (of whom 11 leaders were charge sheeted in Panaji) and “Ram Sene” that has incited so much of violence and still instills hate into the minds of peace loving Hindus and other communities. There is no place for Cultural Terrorism and it should be nipped in the bud before it becomes an issue that the authorities would not be able to handle. The State Commissioner for Disabilities, Mr. Das Suryavanshi reminded that in all the Departments of the Government there is a quota for the Disabled. He encouraged the leaders to ensure that no Disabled person is left out without receiving these benefits that they are entitled either in education, vocational training or employment. The council leaders will meet with the Dalit leaders this evening and with Muslim leaders on Saturday to bring in a network and cohesiveness between the communities for the welfare and development of the same. The meeting also made a resolution that the Prime Minister’s Relief fund announced for the reconstruction of the Churches in Orissa should be urgently implemented as we just have completed 2 years of the attacks on Christians in Orissa. The All India Christian Council (www.christiancouncil.in), birthed in 1998, exists to protect and serve the Christian community, minorities, and the oppressed castes. The aicc is a coalition of thousands of Indian denominations, organizations, and lay leaders. For further information please contact: Rev.
