Not to be left far behind Gujarat in anti-Christian drive, the Bharatiya Janata Party – led Government in Madhya Pradesh is taking measures to keep the Christian community in the state under close observation.

The Government has directed the administration at the district level to keep an eye on the minority Christian community. The directive has sought details about all conversion activities. It has made it mandatory for all District Collectors to maintain a register on all conversions and pass on the details to the government by the 10th of every month.

The action has been prompted by reports that there is large-scale conversion going on in the tribal belt of the state. According to a report appeared in Gujarat Samachar published from Ahmedabad on 7 July 2005, the Christian population in Jhabua district has increased by 80 per cent in the last 10 years.

The report says in Adivasi-dominated Jhabua district has seen a tremendous conversion growth. Alarmed by the development, the BJP Government is in the process of making the anti-conversion provisions much more stringent.
