The Poor Christian Liberation Movement (PCLM) has demanded equal rights and participation for Dalit Christians in the Church structure to allow all-round development of the Christian community. Speaking at a meeting in New Delhi recently, PCLM President RL Francis alleged that the Church leadership was ignoring just demands of Dalit Christians listed in the New Delhi Charter. He strongly criticised the indifference on the part of the Church leadership. Francis said, "If the Church leadership is serious about the development of Dalit Christians, the downtrodden section of the Christian congregation, they should come out clearly on the issue of implementing the demands of Dalit Christians as contained in the New Dalit Declaration. There is no alternative before them, and the sooner they do it, the better it would be in the interest of the Christian community as a whole."
