ImageRAMANATHAPURAM: Mandalamanickam police have arrested two persons for allegedly hurling stones on a vehicle in which some dalits were travelling to Patcherry village, on Wednesday.

Police said, a group of residents from Patcherry village, who were constructing a temple in their village, had placed orders with idol makers at Virudhunagar to carve a stone idol of God Agni Veerapathra Swamy. While the Patcherry residents were going in a van to Virudhunagar to receive the idol, a group of caste Hindus from Mandalamanickam allegedly pelted stones on the van. However, no one was injured in the incident. After this, the dalits went received the idol from Virudhunagar, which was later brought to the temple in Patcherry.

Later they assembled at Muthuramalingapuram-Pudur main road and staged a protest seeking action on those who pelted stones at their vehicle. Following assurance from the police that action would be taken they withdrew their protest and dispersed from the spot.
