Dr Pravin Togadia, the international secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), can never resist his anti-Christian itch. Whenever he gets an opportunity, he spits venom on the minority community. But this time he has gone a step ahead, making a public appeal for financial aid. He has openly asked the corporate sector for help not in the name of his anti-Christian drive but in the name of his mission to oust Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and Opposition leader LK Advani. But that is only a cover. LK Advani is a much-harried and weakened man today. With pressure mounting for his scalp from all sides, his days are definitely numbered. Therefore there is no need for any corporate help in ousting him. Then what kind of help is Dr Togadia openly scouting for. It is undoubtedly to intensify his favourite anti-conversion drive. He wants to eliminate every trace of Christianity from the face of India and turn the country into a Hindu Rashtra. (Once Christians are out, then it is the turn for the minority Muslims.) Although Dr Togadia later denied having sought any corporate help following the news appearing in the media, it is confirmed that he, along with Ashok Singhal, had met Nirma’s Karsanbhai Patel and Zydus Cadila’s Pankaj Patel separately. He also asked prominent businessmen in Ahmedabad to create a corpus of funds through their respective business association networks. “The VHP needs money and support from you. We have big dreams, but first let’s start with Rs 1 crore as corpus,” Dr Togadia said. Gujarat has been a hotbed of hardcore Hindutva and Dr Togadia is keen to use the corporate sector in the VHP’s efforts to consolidate Hindutva activities. He said the aim of the exercise was to create a network of like-minded Hindutva forces, besides providing a platform to discuss corporate contribution to check religious conversion. It may be recalled that on earlier occasions too he had raised the issue of conversion to Christianity. He said the Church was in the process of building 900,000 churches in India. “There are 1,900 non-government organisations run by the Church in India. They distribute 100 million Bibles every year and convert 10,000 Hindus. They get Rs 20 billion from abroad every year. The Christians in India are controlled by foreign powers.” If this is the man seeking corporate funds in the name of ousting Advani, there is an urgent need to keep him under watch. There is not much difference between him and Dara Singh who openly torched Graham Staines and his two children. The Christian community should be not only vigilant but also look for ways and means to contain this most dangerous man before he swallows up every Christian in the country. Para for title Dr Togadia’s open call to corporates for financial aid is only a cover to intensify his anti-Christian drive.
