A man was on 28 October 2006 sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh.

Additional district sessions judge BP Vishkarmi also sentenced the rapist Sanjay an additional three years jail term under the Scheduled Caste Atrocities Prevention Act since the victim is a Dalit.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 6000 on the accused out of which Rs 5,000 would be given to the victim. The girl was gang-raped by Sanjay along with two others, Rohtash and Pushpendra in Saharpur village here on 12 March 2001. Since both of them are minors, their cases have been transferred to a juvenile court.

Earlier, the police had registered a case against the trio based on a complaint filed by the victim's father.
